The Meeting Places
Curated by José Antonio Navarrete
Contemporary photography is tied to the history of photography in many ways. Some photographers appropriate past images to propose new works and meanings. Others draw inspiration from the work of preceding artists at creating their visions. Sometimes, the history of the medium itself motivates comments on cultural and historical questions in recent photography. However, the most important links between the past and the present of art photography are the continuity of genres, such as landscape, portrait, and still life, and ongoing concern with subjects related to human life and feeling. This year, PINTA Photography explores some of these artistic issues at a gathering of international modern and contemporary photography.
