Tribute to Celia Sredni de Birbragher

Celia Sredni de Birbragher is a Colombian editor, researcher, collector, artist, critic, leader and entrepreneur who support the arts in Latin American for over 40 years.  She holds a BA in Fine Arts from the Universidad de los Andes, and since 1976 have been the founder, editor and publisher of ArtNexus. In 1997, Mrs. Birbragher created the ArtNexus Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports, among other projects, the ArtNexus Documentation Center based in Bogota. In 2015, along with EFG Bank, has created the EFG/ArtNexus Prize Award for young Latin American Artists.

      

    

In 2015, Birbragher received the A Award from the ARCOmadrid Art Fair and ARCO Foundation in recognition for more than 40 years devoted to the Latin American Art. In 2004, The Ministry of Culture in Colombia, granted her with the Medal for Cultural Merit in presence of Mrs. Lina Moreno de Uribe, wife of the former President of Colombia, Álvaro Uribe Velez. Additionaly, she received recognition to A Life Devoted to the Art, from the Association of Graduates of the Universidad de los Andes in 2011.

        

Celia has curated international exhibitions such as: L'art Dans le Monde (Art of the World)at Pasaje de Retz, Paris; History of the Colombian Art from the XX Century, at the Centro Colombo Americano, Colombia. She has also served as advisor at the following exhibitions: America: Bride of the Sun, 500 years. Latin American and the Low Countries, for the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, in Ambers, Belgium, and The Art of Fantastic Latin America, for the Indianapolis Museum, Indiana. She was the curatorial consultant for the Paradise Lost? Aspects of Latin American Landscape in Art (2003) exhibition organized by the Lowe Art Museum University of Miami. Mrs. Birbragher has served as President of the Colombian Section of International Art Critics -AICA-; as well as vice-president of the Association of Cultural Magazines in Colombia (ARCCA) and member of the National Council of Visual Arts for the Instituto Cultural Colombiano (COLCULTURA) for the past 18 years. Additionaly, Mrs. Birbragher has been advisor and invited to participate at leading internationals art fairs such as: Art Basel, Switzerland; ARCO, Spain; SP Arte, Brazil; Art Basel Miami, Frieze Art Fair, Pinta Art Fair and ArtBO Colombia, among others.

        

Celia Birbragher has been invited to participated as a speaker at symposiums and conferences such as: Art Media/Latin American Art Magazines: Now and Then at Art Basel Miami Beach, Miami, United Stated; Conversation on Colombian Magazines at Casa Daros, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Forum for Art of the World,  Paris, France; Lima Biennial, Peru; International Symposium, Museum of Latin-American art (MoLAA), Long Beach, California; Symposium for the study of Cultural Management, organized by CONAC and the Polar Foundation, Caracas, Venezuela; among others.
